Experience
Matthijs Roest Crollius graduated in Dutch Law from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, with a focus on Dutch corporate and employment law and studied International Law at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He started working as a lawyer at VMW Taxand in Amsterdam in 2008 with a focus on initially contract and corporate law and then on employment law. In 2013, he graduated from the post-doctoral Grotius Academy for Employment Law.
Matthijs is dependable, flexible, open-minded and committed to bringing cases to a good conclusion, not shying away from the unconventional path and a tough legal approach. Matthijs advises on a wide range of employment and labour topics, as well as immigration issues related to international mobility of workers. Next to being fluent in English and Dutch, he is happy to have a conversation in French.
Matthijs is member of the Dutch Bar, the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA), the Dutch Employment Lawyers Association (VAAN), the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) and committed to diversity in various advocacy organizations and has been a board member for 8 years of Pymwymic, a community of investors who believe in the flow of capital to good causes.

Matthijs also regularly gives presentations, in-house training and speaks at seminars in the Netherlands and abroad.

Matthijs’ past publications include an annual contribution on Dutch labour law to “International Labor & Employment Laws”, an American Bar Association edition.
Registration
Matthijs has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister): employment law.
Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
